IBORI TRIED TO BRIBE ME WITH N2.4B - HOW HE ALSO PLANNED TO KILL ME - NUHU RIBADU.

It has been revealed that  former Delta State Governor James Ibori tried to bribe anti-corruption boss Nuhu Ribadu in 2007 with $15 million (about N2.4 billion) in cash in a bag so heavy one man alone could not lift it, Ribadu told a London court on Thursday.

Ribadu said he pretended to take the bribe because he wanted the cash as evidence to use against Ibori in a prosecution, but rather than keep the money for himself he had it taken straight to the Central Bank of Nigeria to be kept safe in a vault.


He told the court that about $1 billion flowed from federal government accounts into Delta State coffers during Ibori's eight years in power, and he estimated Ibori had stolen or wasted more than half of that amount.

MAN CAUGHT WITH 6.5KG HIGH GRADE BRAZILLIAN COCAINE IN LAGOS.

32 year old Francis Bawaba, a Nigerian based in Spain was this weekend arrested by the men of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) with 6.5kg high grade Braziillian cocaine.

Bawaba was arrested at the Murtala Mohammed airport in Lagos as he arrived aboard an Etihad flight. NDLEA officials found 364 wraps of cocaine said to be worth N72million concealed in the luggage of the trafficker. They said he took off from Malpensa Milan and collected the drug on transit while in Abudhabi.

UNDERGRADUATES FROM UNIJOS, ELECTRONICALLY STEALS N2BILLION FROM UNION BANK.

Officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested two young men identified as Isaiah Friday and Azzaior Samuel for allegedly defrauding a bank the sum of N2.05b. The suspects who claimed to be undergraduates of the University of Jos and two bureau de change operators, Salihu Mahmoud and Dan Ibrahim, connived to commit the criminal act.

The suspects were also accused of being members of a syndicate that specialised in breaking into the computer data base of financial institutions to carry out dry posting of funds...

The Head, Media and Publicity, EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, said the suspects were arrested in Lagos and Jos.

400 LEVEL STUDENT CAUGHT WITH COCAINE AT AKANU IBIAM AIRPORT - PHOTO.

A 400-level student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka Anambra, was arrested this week at Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu State, for ingesting 25 wraps of male condoms filled with cocaine.

32 year old Chizoba Nwabuwa arrived aboard an Ethiopian Airline flight from Brazil when he tested positive to liquid cocaine, which weighed 1.250kg. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency officials say this is the first drug seizure to be made at the newly refurbished international airport.

NDLEA in a statement, said:

That is not the case. The fact is that I never knew I would make it in music. Music is just one of the talents God gave me that I never gave a chance, but when I eventually did, it brought me to where I am today. I have been doing this for sometime and I thank God that people appreciate my song. It was not that I set out to become a singer, it was just a path God had prepared me for, which I never knew until I discovered myself. So, the chief reason for doing music aside the passion and the talent like you have rightly said is basically because of the fear of being a failure. My plan has always been to do everything possible to succeed in a legal way.

LAGOS PROMISES ON ADULT EDUCATION.

Lagos State Government has restated its commitment to the development of education, especially adult education in the state.

The Chairman of the state House of Assembly Committee on Education, Wahab Alawiye-King, stated this at a workshop in Lagos.

The workshop, organised by the Lagos State Agency for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education, in conjunction with the National Mass Education Commission, UNESCO and the Millennium Development Goals Office, had in attendance no fewer than 111 participants. It was entitled ‘Revatilising adult and youth literacy in Lagos.’

STUDENTS DON'T WANT US TO END STRIKE - ASUU.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has said it is continuing its nationwide strike on the advice of university students.

In a telephone interview with SUNDAY PUNCH, the President of the union, Dr. Isa Fagge, said  students were tired of the incessant industrial actions by the university lecturers due to the Federal Government’s failure to implement the agreement it had with ASUU since 2009.

Fagge said the union had decided to heed the advice of the students to continue the strike until the Federal Government fully implemented the agreement.
